Harry Levant Warns Prediction Markets Are Fueling Gambling Relapses

Full context

Gambling addiction clinician Harry Levant warned senators about the expansion of prediction markets during an August 4, 2026, Senate Committee on Indian Affairs roundtable.

Levant contrasted prediction markets with traditional microbetting and identified Kalshi, Polymarket, DraftKings, and FanDuel while discussing how widely the products are offered. He said promotions presented prediction-market products to customers in all 50 states, including states that had not legalized sports betting, and to people as young as 18.

Levant said six clients in his recovery group had returned to gambling through prediction markets during the previous three months because they believed they were making investments. While saying he was not a prohibitionist, Levant told lawmakers that the expansion had created a mental health crisis.
